Kulgam Encounter: Two militants Killed, internet snapped in the district | KNO

They were offered to surrender, but refused and fired at forces, say security officials

Kulgam, May 30 (KNO): Two militants were killed in an encounter that started between government forces and militants at Wanpora in Qaimoh area South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Saturday morning. An official told news agency— Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that two militants were killed in exchange of fire whose identification is being ascertained, while as search operation is under way in the area. Earlier, an official said that cordon and search operation was launched in the area by joint team of forces including 1 RR, CRPF and Kulgam Police on specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area on Friday evening. He said that on Saturday morning as forces approached towards suspected spot, hiding militants fired upon forces which was retaliated triggering an encounter. Officials told KNO that the militants were repeatedly offered to lay weapons and come out of the house without wearing any clothes and to surrender before the forces, but the “offer was rejected every time and instead militants fired at the forces.” Mobile internet has been also suspended in Shopian for precautionary measures. Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that during the intervening night of 29/30 May 2020, on a specific input generated by Kulgam Police, a cordon & search operation was launched jointly by Kulgam Police, 01 RR and CRPF 18 Bn at Wanpora Khudwani area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. “During the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the joint search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter,” the spokesman said. “In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. The identification and affiliation of the killed militants is being ascertained.” The spokesman said that incriminating material including arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. “All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other crimes. In this connection case FIR No. 30/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Qaimoh and investigation has been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any” — (KNO)
